First one I had 0.028" pinion shim (behind the factory gear set) and was too deep. Went to 0.026" and pattern got better but was still off. This is with 0.023" pinion shim and all checks have been with 0.008" backlash. The nut should be tightened to obtain 20 inch pounds resistance to turn with new bearings lightly oiled.
